Biography

PRIMARY AREAS OF PRACTICE

Susan focuses her practice on civil litigation, primarily in the areas of insurance defense, employment law, municipal law and product liability as well as land use and environmental matters. She represents clients in both State and Federal courts as well as in alternative dispute resolution settings, including mediations and binding and non-binding arbitrations.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

Susan has more than 25 years of experience in a variety of civil litigation matters.  Prior to joining Gebhardt & Kiefer, Susan was a Partner in an insurance defense litigation firm, where she handled all aspects of product and premises liability cases, employment matters, complex construction cases and personal injury claims.  Prior to that, she was an attorney with a firm serving as municipal counsel to several New Jersey municipalities, where she represented her clients in a wide range of matters.  Susan was also Of Counsel to a law firm serving as general counsel to an international manufacturing company, where she handled employment litigation, product liability, corporate and environmental matters throughout the U.S. and developed and oversaw an export licensing and control program for the company’s U.S. and European entities.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Susan earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture and both a Juris Doctorate and Master of Studies in Environmental Law from the Vermont Law School.  She more recently completed two comprehensive mediation training courses with the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators and the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education.

Susan is admitted to the New Jersey State Bar, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Susan is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the New Jersey Defense Association.
